Colorado is a beautiful place. Let’s keep it that way.
We elevate your work in courtrooms, boardrooms, backrooms. and the Capitol.
I’ve found meaning in the outdoors ever since I was a boy. I live and raise my family in Colorado because of its enormous outdoor beauty. Nothing compares to the stillness of snowshoeing after a storm, the rhythm of pedaling a bike up a quiet mountain pass, and the peace of looking out across the forested landscape at the top of a hike. I cannot imagine a Colorado without those things, yet the Colorado of just two decades ago looks much different than the Colorado of today. Unsustainable practices have changed our state and the world. We are at a decision point between making things worse or making them better.
We should protect and preserve what we have now and make it even better in the future. We know what needs to be done, but we need a lot of help in getting there. Using the law and public policy to create a cleaner, more vibrant future has been my contribution to that effort. Many organizations, businesses, governments, and communities are stepping up to create a more sustainable future. I use my unique blend of experience in the legal, policy, and regulatory arenas to help all those groups. It is a privilege to use that knowledge for good. I don’t want to tell stories to my kids and grandkids about how beautiful Colorado used to be. Instead, I want to look back at my career and point to the progress we’ve made.
If your vocation or passion is to protect, conserve, preserve, or improve Colorado, Foote Law and Policy can help you achieve your goals.
How do we get to a cleaner, more sustainable future? One step at a time.
Individuals, groups, businesses, and governments all struggle with how to chart their paths to a decarbonized future. Where to start? What are the best practices? Colorado offers a unique blend of forward thinking and pragmatism that provides ample opportunities for progress. It was the first state to implement a renewable energy mandate and it a leader in greenhouse gas regulations. Yet Coloradans know more must be done, and there are plenty of ways to make that happen.

I was hit by a car in a bike lane in 2019 and after representing cyclists for years who’ve been hurt and harmed in bike lanes, I decided we needed to push for a new law that says motorists must yield to cyclists in bike lanes, and that cyclists were legally protected while in bike lanes. I immediately thought of Mike, knowing his reputation as a Senator at the time, and we partnered to compose and pass the bill. He helped me navigate the overwhelming and intimidating environment at the state Capitol and he did so with ease and calm – just the kind of presence someone wants to have on their side when fighting for an important issue. I am so grateful to Mike for his help on this important issue and he’s a great partner to have when it comes to anything at the Capitol!
It has been a pleasure working with Mike. He is thorough, thoughtful, responsive, and has provided great advice to the Sierra Club on various issues. We look forward to utilizing his services in our continuing efforts to protect our environment and our well-being.
In working with Mike as an expert witness at Public Utility Commission proceedings advocating for cost-effective renewable energy, I have greatly appreciated his guidance and attention to detail in getting testimony in order as well as his expertise and preparation for being out front representing the case before the commissioners during litigation.
